Sperm, bouncy castles and a serious hangover...

SO orientation week is nearly over, and all the 1st years are nearly orientated!

We had a mental week here in the Union, with postgrads on Tuesday and then the 1st years on Wed, Thurs and Fri!

Here is a quick list of suff i've been up to in the past couple of weeks!
I've done a lot more i just can't remember it!
What I’ve being doing 2

New Services
• New service introduced- Laptop repair shop now located in the Students Union print room. Very good student prices.
• Passport Photos - We do all different types of ID photos, so just call in and ask behind reception. Its €6 for 4 top quality prints.

General
Bike shop – Held interviews for manager of the Bikeshop, Chris Butcher is the new manager and I would like to offer him my best wishes for the future.

ULSU Cinema – We showed the hangover on the big screen in Orientation week and had 500 people show up.

Orientation week- Club membership signups, safecab signups, bouncy castles, trampolining, sumo suits, live music, sperm suits…

Nitelink – I’ve being trying to get the University to put up proper bus stop signs in each of the estates where the Nitelink picks up students so it is easier to find out where the Nitelink stops. The University do not want to do it, as there is an issue with signs not being of the same colour as the rest of the signage on campus. Ongoing.

Graduation Ball – A great success, great food, music and banter.

Met with the University to look into co-ordinating some of our campaigns…Mental Health Week, Road Safety Week.

Bluetooth- Now fully functional in the Students Union courtyard. Its totally FREE. Free to download, and you can get special offers when you download the picture or text.

Frssher Fest….. NEWTON FAULKNER, OCEAN COLOUR SCENE, TIFFANY PAGE. Tix 18 beans! or a free on when you sign up to an Ulster Bank account!

Park and Ride Facility – I’ve been in contact with Mike Hynan and he is looking at the logistics of providing a park and ride facility in the Technology Park near Unigolf.

So...What does a CSO actually DO anyway?

What I’ve been up to…

  • Attended two conferences, Marketing Social Change and Supporting Students Through the Economic Downturn.
  • Visited WIT student’s union.
  • Organised all of the dates for the different campaigns and events into the different weeks.
  • In the middle of setting up a Green Campus Society to try and make the University more environmentally friendly.
  • Looking into a Park and Ride facility for the University to help cut down on car parking on campus.
  • Got flags and a gazebo for the Union to advertise any event, campaign, to sell tickets from and to better market its services.
  • Put up snap frames in the Union for posters. This will tidy up the look of the Union.
  • In middle of organising the Fresher ball, one big UK act booked and more being booked as we speak.
  • A new service being brought in- ID photos will be sold in reception from September. €6 for 4 photos will see passport quality photos being sold for students.
  • There will also be a Bluetooth service in place where Union info can be sent to students in the courtyard. Student will also be able to avail of promotional offers from companies through this service. We can send text, photos, videos and MP3s!
  • Graduation tickets are selling fast, and we have organised a DJ and band for it.
  • I have been in talks about setting up a Cinema in UL for students, showing old classics in a lecture theatre for only €2.
  • Johnny Flynn booked for Monnet for Wednesday, 22 September 2010.

  • Laptop locks are available in O’ Mahoney’s for €12. Will fit on most laptops, and can be put around legs of the tables in Library.
  • Sent letters out for sponsorship for the Nitelink to businesses in the area.
  • Videoed the different routes of the Nitelink to make a video to put on youtube.
